New PPIC Poll Shows Prop 43 Falling Short with California Voters

SACRAMENTO, CA – A new PPIC poll shows Prop. 43 falling far short of mustering a majority of voters, with just 43% of likely November voters in support and 51% opposed three weeks before ballots are mailed to voters. Proposition 43 makes it harder to fund critical, life-saving services like police and fire departments, fix and repair local roads, staff our local schools or backfill federal health care cuts.

“Firefighters have been sounding the alarm about the dangers of Prop 43 and PPIC’s poll shows voters are listening, with a majority poised to vote down a measure that limits their own communities’ ability to fund life-saving local emergency services,” said Darrell Roberts, President of California Professional Firefighters. “Wildfires are no longer one season but a year-round event. Communities across the state are coming together to prepare, voting to invest in safety measures and the equipment firefighters need to stop fires before they become deadly. Prop 43 is designed to give corporate interests the power to block what the majority of a community wants, making a no vote count twice as much as a yes vote.
