New IGS Poll Shows Prop 43 in Freefall With California Voters

California Communities Are Rejecting Measure That Will Limit Local Control, Jeopardize Public Safety

SACRAMENTO, CA – With 10 days before ballots hit mailboxes, a new Berkeley IGS Poll shows Prop. 43 sinking, with just 31% of likely general election voters in support versus 40% opposed. Proposition 43 makes it harder for voters to fund critical, life-saving services like police and fire departments, fix and repair local roads, staff our local schools or backfill federal health care cuts.

“Californians are seeing Prop 43 for what it is: a corporate power grab that allows a small minority of voices to block the local services their communities need. When one-third of voters can overrule the rest, fire stations go unstaffed, response times grow longer, and wildfire prevention gets put on hold,” said Darrell Roberts, President of California Professional Firefighters. “Voters understand that local communities should decide how to protect themselves. Prop 43 would hand even more power to corporate interests and put fire protection, emergency response and public safety at risk. As voters continue to make their decisions ahead of the November 3 election, we’re glad they’re seeing Prop 43 as unreasonable and unfair.”
